Nestled among a row of shophouses along Tanjong Katong Road near the famous Punggol Nasi Lemak stall is yet another late-night dining joint: Tianfu Steamboat. Boasting both a la carte and buffet menus, this joint is perfect for late night suppers, especially on a chilly rainy night. They are supposedly MSG-free, and their lobster soup (in picture) well-known among diners. Other soups available are scallop, chicken, and the usual fare at steamboat restaurants.
The a la carte buffet has a good selection of meats and vegetables, certainly enough to satisfy the pickiest of taste buds. The lobster soup in my opinion is divine. The sweetness and umami from cooked lobster and shells permeate the pot, only to get more flavorful as we cook more seafood, meats and vegetables in it. So tasty, we drank bowls after bowls. We spent about $35 each after the taxes, which isn’t too shabby at all with such stellar soup base. A tip? They deliver for nearby estates in terms of a big container of soup and additional dishes from their a la carte menu. Certainly something to consider for your upcoming Chinese New Year reunion dinner if you are staying nearby. Check out their Facebook for contact information.
